Cutting tools
Cutting tools
A cutting tool can be used to cut and separate different materials. They are characterised by attached cutting wedges. The cutting tools have different functions for different materials.
Knives and cutters
Knives can be used universally. There are countless areas of application, which is why knives are the most widely used cutting tool. The most common knives are presented here.
Cutter knives and safety knives
Cutter knives are small and have a retractable blade with so-called predetermined breaking points. By breaking off a part of the blade, the cutter knife is sharp again. No additional tools are required to change the blade. The blade can be extended or engaged using a slider on the housing.
Compared to cutter knives as a cutting tool, safety knives have the advantage that the blade retracts automatically. As soon as the slider is released, the blade retracts into the housing. This minimises the risk of injury.
Cable knife
Cable knifes are used to remove insulation from electrical cables. These knives are particularly sharp cutting tools so that the blade can slide easily through the insulating material and strip the wire. The ergonomic handle means the knives fit perfectly in the hand.
Multifunctional tools, pocket knives
Pocket knives , also known as sack knives, are small and handy. In addition to the folding small and large knives as cutting tools, the pocket knife has many other functions. Scissors, corkscrew, lid opener and many other elements are included in the multifunctional tool. These can all be folded in and out. This makes them safe and very handy.
Insulation knife
An insulation knife can be used to cut insulation materials to exact dimensions. These cutting tools have a stainless steel blade with a double cutting edge and a point. A serrated insulation knife is used for soft and light materials. For dense and hard material, on the other hand, a serrated blade is used.
Sealing ring cutter and disc cutter
Rings can be cut with the sealing ring cutter. The cutter is clamped in a vice and has a prism rail with mm graduations.
Precision knives and scalpels
Precision knives and scalpels can be used to cut contours with maximum accuracy. The handle of the cutting tools is made of aluminium. The low weight makes the knife particularly light and comfortable to hold.
Scissors
Scissors consist of two cutting edges that run against each other. These are connected by a screw with two grip holes. Scissors can be used to easily cut and slice different materials.
Sheet metal shears
Sheet metal shears are used as cutting tools for sheet metal made of steel and non-ferrous metals. Only use the shears for work on these materials in order to maintain the sharpness and quality of the cutting tool. To cut, open the shears wide and push the sheet as far as possible into the jaws of the shears. The shears should not be fully closed when cutting in order to achieve a continuous cut.
Combi shears and all-purpose shears
Combi shears have a serrated cutting edge made of stainless steel. This prevents slipping on the workpiece. Combi shears and all-purpose shears can be used universally as cutting tools. They can be used for hard or soft materials.
Electric shears
Electrician's shears have a stainless steel cutting edge. The precision grinding ensures a clean cut. Electrician's shears are used for cutting cables. Electrician's shears combine the following functions, such as cutting to length, stripping, stripping and crimping, in one cutting tool.
Paper scissors and fabric scissors
Paper scissors and fabric scissors are used very frequently in everyday life. Paper scissors can be used to cut cardboard, paper and other soft materials. However, never use paper scissors for fabric work. This will blunt the edges and the scissors will no longer cut cleanly.
Pipe shears and hose shears
Pipe shears can be used to cut different pipes cleanly without a great deal of force. Hose shears are used to cut hoses. They are also used for clean cuts on hydraulic and compressed air hoses
Lever cutters and lever machines
Lever cutters can be used to make long, straight cuts. These cutting tools are particularly suitable for cutting large stacks. The lever is lowered to create a pressing action. The length of the lever reduces the amount of force required.
- Make sure you use a suitable mat or underlay when cutting
- Do not leave the cutting tool unattended
- Clean cutting tools regularly
- Check the condition of the tool before use and carry out any necessary maintenance work
